Marriage

The Sacrament of Holy Matrimony is a covenant, which is more than a contract. Covenant always expresses a relationship between persons. The marriage covenant refers to the relationship between the husband and wife, a permanent union of persons capable of knowing and loving each other and God. The celebration of marriage is also a liturgical act, appropriately held in a public liturgy at church. Catholics are urged to celebrate their marriage within the Eucharistic Liturgy.

Catholics who have been married in a civil ceremony may seek to have their union officially recognized by the Church. The Church calls this the convalidation of a marriage or the blessing of a marriage. The benefits of convalidation are many, including peace of heart, oneness with the Church, and reception of the Sacrament of Marriage. We will help you to prepare for the convalidation of your marriage.

By sharing the journey of your marriage preparation, we hope to welcome you home into a community where you can grow in your spiritual life. The Notre Dame des Victories is not just a place where you get married. It is a place of family where you will be cared for, supported, and loved.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who can get married at NDV?

Any baptized Roman Catholic may marry at Notre Dame des Victoires Church with an ordained priest or deacon to witness the Sacrament of Marriage. The consent of your pastor, along with a commitment regarding the marriage preparation process and a written commitment from the presiding priest is necessary before marriage scheduling can be finalized. A $250 non-refundable deposit must also be made to reserve the church for your ceremony.

  • What are the dates/times of weddings?

Weddings are on Saturdays at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm.

  • How much advance notice is required?

At least six months advance notice is required to prepare for a wedding at NDV.

  • Is there a fee/cost to be married at NDV?

For those who are not part of the regular worshipping community at NDV, the fee is $1,500 for the use of the church. If the services of an NDV priest are required to preside for the ceremony, a fee of $225 is requested for those services.

For resident worshipping parishioners of NDV the fee is $700, with or without the participation of an NDV resident priest.

  • What is the handicap access at NDV?

There is an elevator available, allowing persons in wheelchairs to enter the church from sidewalk-level.

  • Where do guests park?

There are 3 spots available in front of the church which are available upon request. Guests should park at the Sutter-Stockton garage directly across the street. On-street parking in the area is very difficult to find.

  • Are there restrictions on decorations, like placement of flowers, aisle runners, candles, etc.?

Runners or rugs are not permitted during marriage ceremonies. Flowers are placed according to the logistics of the ceremony. It is appreciated if flowers are left for the use of the church after your ceremony is ended. Flowers and other decorations should never be affixed to the church/pews except by non-damaging, removable means.

  • How is the music handled? Can NDV provide musicians, or can we provide our own?

The grand pipe organ of NDV is available only when played by the NDV organist. Use of the organ is not assumed with use of the church. The organist and/or cantor must be contacted separately in order to schedule their participation in your ceremony.

Scheduling of musicians is the responsibility of the wedding couple. You may provide your own music and musicians; however any and all music played or sung in conjunction with your ceremony must be within church liturgical guidelines.

  • When can photos be taken?

Photos are normally taken after the ceremony.
