Baptism

The origin and foundation of Christian Baptism is Jesus. Before starting his public ministry, Jesus submitted himself to the baptism given by John the Baptist. The waters did not purify him; he cleansed the waters. Jesus did not need to be baptized because he was totally faithful to the will of his Father and free from sin. However, he wanted to show his solidarity with human beings in order to reconcile them to the Father. By commanding his disciples to baptize all nations, he established the means by which people would die to sin – Original and actual – and begin to live a new life with God.

  • What sort of preparation is required for Baptism?

There are two instruction sessions prior to baptism: the first is a meeting with a priest and the second is a presentation followed by a discussion. If you are a parishioner at another church, you will need the permission of your pastor to have the baptism held at NDV.

  • What are the dates/times for baptisms?

NDV's regularly scheduled Weekend Mass times are available. Confirm a date and time with a priest at NDV. Baptisms outside of Weekend Mass times are also available. These baptisms are celebrated on Saturday mornings.

  • What documents are needed for Baptism registration?

Please bring to the first meeting with a priest, the child's birth certificate and a letter of qualification for godparents. These can be obtained from the godparent's local parish.
